Synopsis: The story focuses on widow, Annie Nations.  She is forced to confront changes taking place in her own life and in the world she's lived in for 79 years.  Hector, Annie's husband, is dead but through Annie's continuing dialogue with him, we learn of the end of a way-of-life for an Appalachian family. Central to her predicament is the question of whether to remain on her hilltop farm, alone and out of touch with her children and neighbors, or to concede to her frailty and move to a place where care would be quickly available.

Exploring the events of the past and the realities of the present we see the difficult decisions facing Annie; decisions which will shape her future with her musician son and his family - and her relationship with Hector.
